Affiliate programs are an excellent way start making money online. Affiliate programs offer many advantages for the new online business. You can begin making money without taking the time to develop your own product, you don’t have to worry about creating a sales page or concern yourself with accepting credit cards or delivering a product. All of these details are taken care of by the merchant.

But before you jump aboard the first affiliate ship you see, do some research. There are two basic types of affiliate programs: standard and residual programs. Most standard programs give you a one-time payment. Each time you make a sale, you receive a payment. No sale, no payment; it is a simple and straight forward arrangement.

Residual programs however, work a little differently. Most residual plans collect payments from customers on an ongoing basis, usually monthly. Examples of this are: monthly web hosting plans and autoresponder payments.

As with standard affiliate products, you collect a payment each time you make a sale for one of these products. The initial payment you receive from the sale is substantially lower than payments on standard affiliate products. However, in addition to your initial payment, you will get an additional commission each time your customer makes a monthly payment for that service or product. And you will continue to receive these payments for as long as that customer remains with the company.

This is the value of residual programs. You can collects payments for years to come. So, if you are looking to add affiliate programs as part of your business plan, consider adding both standard as well as residual programs. By diversifying in this way, you can generate substantial current income and build up a very nice residual income stream.

Generating profits is the reason you start an online business. Unfortunately, about 80% of these business owners make no money at all. And only 10% make massive profits. If you are stuck in that bottom 80 %, try some of these tactics below to start making money.

There are only three rules you need to follow to make money online. They are: Market, Market, and Market some more. If you are not earning any income, it is probably because you are not marketing your business effectively. If you want to make massive profits, you must market your business every day.

1. Article marketing is a very effective method to bring traffic to your website. Those who are the most successful at this tend to write the most articles. To maximize your potential, you should try to write at least one article per day. Make sure that every article contains an author’s resource box with 2 or 3 links to your site, squeeze page, or affiliate products that you are promoting.

2. Advertising can bring in a tidy some of money each month. Although Adsense is the easiest program to install and administer, use other advertising as well to maximize your profit potential. Place ads for affiliate products adjacent to the main content of your web page. This placement will give you the most bang for your buck.

3. Make sure that the products and ads shown on your site are targeted to your site’s niche. If your site is about bird watching, you will sell very few foreign exchange trading programs, but bird feeders will probably sell very well.

4. Until you are making over $1000 per month, reinvest half of your monthly profits into outside advertising. This ensures that you will continue to make more and more money each month.

5. Keep track of your expenses. Make sure you are spending your money effectively. By using your money wisely, you can increase your profits substantially.

6. Track everything. Make it a priority to know where your traffic is coming from and focus more of you efforts in those areas. If ads from a particular ezine are doing well for you, place a larger ad in that publication next month. By careful tracking you can consistently generate more and more profits.

7. Spend time in forums that are related to your niche. Post often with good meaningful information. Develop a signature file that touts your website or squeeze page. To maximize your success using this technique, make at least 8 posts per day for every forum you belong to.

I like Google Adsense. It contributes a nice little chunk of change to my income each and every month.That said, I don’t and won’t follow the lead of those whose sites earn only through Google Adsense.

What happens when their Adsense accounts are shut down by Google? It does happen, and they’re left scrambling to replace lost income!

Don’t believe me?

Try clicking on your own site’s Google Adsense links once or twice and see how fast Google shuts down your Adsense account. (No, don’t really do that!)

Does it make sense to build an entire site around financial products to make a few bucks on Adsense clicks, when you can earn up to $40 for a completed credit card application?

Not to me, it doesn’t.

I use Google Adsense to supplement my affiliate income, not replace it.

Basically, it comes down to value. Value for you, and value for your visitors.

Sites that monetize only with Adsense aren’t getting real value from their site’s real estate.

Too, it’s important to me that my visitors find information of value to them on my sites, and I do that by offering balanced product reviews and articles on the related topic.

If after reading my material, they’re not interested in the product offerings, then perhaps they’ll see an Adwords ad that captures their interest.

Placing Google Adsense on your site is a strategy that will put money in your pockets even if your visitors don’t buy.

However, in the same way you need to be smart about choosing lucrative affiliate programs, you also want to do your homework when monetizing topics with Adsense.

For example, I was recently re-reading some information about under-represented niche topics with huge markets.

One of the topics suggested as a winner was ’snakes’.

I found that hard to believe, so I did my own research.

The term ’snakes’ had 152,857 searches at Overture and its partners in January, so yes, that’s a pretty sizeable interest in ’snakes’.

OK, but who’s your market? Kids looking for snake pictures for a school project? People who want to buy snakes? Someone who wants to visit Snake River?

What are you going to sell? Snakes? The game, ‘Snake’? A $10 book on which you make a 15% commission? A $60 poster from allposters.com on which you earn a 30% commission seemed to be the best bet, but how many people want to pay $60 for snake posters?

To me, that’s not enough interest or commission potential to build a site around ’snakes’.

So, what about incorporating Adsense to boost potential profitability?

Well, search Google for ’snakes’. See what comes up in the Google Adwords column?

NOTHING!

If you want to monetize with Adsense, you have to pick topics whose Adwords advertisers spend mega-bucks per click.

How do you figure out what those topics are?

Easy!

If you haven’t already done so, open up a Google Adwords account and create a new campaign. Add a list of keywords (one niche topic at a time), then click on ‘estimate traffic’. The resulting page will show you the average cost per click for each keyword.

Make note of the most expensive words in that list and optimize your pages for those phrases.

THAT’s how you’ll really profit with Google Adsense.

Warning! Warning! Warning!

Once you find a lucrative topic that is projected to cost you $36,987.57 per day, don’t forget to pause that campaign, or delete it altogether!

Q. So what made you get started with AdSense?

A. I was looking for a way to monetize some of my websites. AdSense is such an easy thing to get started with the eye for it would be a great way to start earning more money without actually putting into much more effort. I think as soon as you see the first earnings coming into your account you get addicted to AdSense. I know is what happened to me and since then I’ve just spent time working out how to earn more and more each day.

Q. How much do you make with AdSense?

A. Some days I can earn close to $1000 and others it’s less than that. But it all comes down to how much time and effort you devote to creating a quality site that people like visiting. AdSense is not what my business is based on by any means - but it is a great way to earn revenue almost on autopilot.

Q. What is the biggest mistake people making with AdSense?

A. Probably the biggest mistake people make is thinking the AdSense earnings are easy to achieve. It is very easy to get started but as I learned it takes a lot of effort to increase your earnings. I got really downhearted whenever I would log in to my account to see that I had only made a few dollars. And that’s when I decided to spend months and months of my time learning everything I could about AdSense.

I basically buried myself away and devoured every single piece of AdSense information I could find. I ran thousands of AdSense tests and started to see a dramatic effect on my click through ratio and therefore on my earnings.

This is why I’d decided to record the videos - because I knew that it would help people who were in my position to also increase their earnings. I’ve read an absolute ton of AdSense e-book’s but they take so long to go through and always seem to keep information back.

With AdSense Videos I knew that I had to tell the story exactly as it is and actually show people and lead them by the hand through the exact techniques that I use to generate large earnings from AdSense.

Q. In your videos you show people how to increase their AdSense earnings - can you give us a taster of this advice?

A. I don’t want to give away my biggest secrets as you can understand! But some of the more basic things that you can do to increase your revenues include using ads that blend in rather than stand out from your content. Flat out the worst thing you can do with an AdSense ad is make it look like the standard Google ad. What you need to realise is that you will get more clicks if your ad actually appears part of your site rather than something that’s just been dropped into the page.

Q. What would you recommend that someone do right now to increase their AdSense earnings?
